Weed may eventually be legalized only for medicinal uses only. I don't think it will ever be legalized for every day personal use.

PS the Democrats are going to win in 08. Thats just the way this country runs.

Were you high when you asked this question?

There are four states in the union that I'm aware of that have had recent referenda or law changes with regards to the legal status of marijuana: Alaska, Colorado, Nevada, and Massachusetts.

The first three are all overwhelmingly Republican states -- Colorado has been the most consistently Republican since Nixon of any state in the union. They do, however, have strong libertarian (or pre-moral-majority) leanings -- something that both major parties are jettisoning.

Massachusetts is odd state out here. It's largely Democratic, and the change in Massachusetts was an actual legal change to make possession a civil offense -- which means you'll get your weed taken and a fine, not jail time.

If the Dems take full control in '08, I think that's the absolute best we can look forward to. Medical marijuana is more likely, but still a long shot. Keep in mind that the Republicans will have had eight years to stock the DEA and the FDA with anti-drug crusaders, which will provide a great deal of backpressure against even reclassifying marijuana.

The "War on Drugs" has become a large part of American political dogma. Even if a state were to legalize marijuana, you can count on the federal government suing the state, offering major incentives to criminalize pot, or both -- no matter which party is in power. It's necessary if they're to preserve the religion of the war on drugs, and to preserve the power of a strong central state.

I will not be bolt from the blue if weed and any other substance may well be legalized in America by democrats. They already legalized homosexuals wedding ceremony, so what else we need to see approaching from democrats? Well, after all that is what Americans are asking for.
I am flabbergasted.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the Supreme Court decided no so it would only happen if there was another case and they decided diffrent. Now that I think of it though I think that was medical marijuana so legalizing weed just to smoke would be different. I doubt it will happen though. It's too risky politically

won't happen as most kids want it legalized but most adults, even ex smokers do not want it legalized.

mainly cause they can see the masses of society becoming stoned 24/7. in turn business would stop functioning, commerce would grind to a halt, etc.

now it would be cheaper to make it legal over illegal. for one you are not spending billions to "fight it". next you can tax it like cigs and gas and bring more money into the economy. plus after a few generations of it being legal, the hype of doing it will go away and it will no longer be an issue.

Germany has no drinking age. you can get a beer at a local McDonald's. but due to that, there is no hype or want to break laws and go drink. in turn they have one of the lowest drinking rates, issues, problems, DUIs, etc.

i don't think there's any way that they'd legalize it, ever. the democrats would never risk doing that because they'd probably be voted out of office during the next election and the republicans would repeal the law anyway. however, i think that it's ridiculous that marijuana is illegal. in my opinion it's no worse than alcohol. plus think of all the money in taxes the government would get from legalized marijuana sales.

Democrats have a lot more to worry about than rather ZoneBoy 3 gets high or not. ZoneBoy 3 needs to get off the weed and start becoming a more responsible, patriotic citizen. -RKO-

Not a chance. It was Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat that signed the bill in 1937 that made marijuana illegal in the United States. Prior to that it was up to the individual States and most did not have laws against growing or using marijuana.

no. democrats aren't all hippie hemp lovers. a lot of them are douche bags just like republicans except with more acceptance and a more rational and less big business view on earth.

so sorry but i'd highly doubt the legalization of weed. In the city of Denver weed is legal though, but in the state of Colorado its illegal which makes it illegal in denver even though in city rule its legalized

Well Zone 3 boy, it's certainly possible that we may see a Canadian/Dutch type decriminilazation of Marijuana. Funny enough, the Nevada initiative to legalize marijuana is being pushed by a Republican.
