I am a teen who just joined gymnastics, and i have no experience. I cant even do a cartwheel. I joined a tumbling class to learn how to do cartwheels and backhandsprings and stuff like that. I was just wondering how long it about takes to learn these moves:
-cartwheel, roundoff
-handstand, backwalk over
-backhandspring
-back flips
or anything else...
also if you have any tips or anything...
Thank you!!

I was also in gymnastics when I was younger. First of all, practice, practice, practice. Also, sometimes, practice can only help so much. Some people are more limber than others, and some people have naturally better balance than others, and both of those are essential when preforming in gymnastics. The key is to work hard and don't get discouraged over slow progress. Also, do alot of stretches at home to help make yourself more limber. I liked to stretch my legs on my bedroom floor while doing my homework. Also, I found that practicing flips on a trampoline was easier and less intimidating than trying to practice them all the time in a crowd of other people so close to the hard floor. Last of all, have a couple of friends to practice with. They will help you when its time to learn how to do flips. Have fun and good luck!

cartwheel, roundoff.. about a week to get a good one
handstand... month
backwalkover... 2-4 months
backhandspring... depends on the person.. might be easier to do backhandsprings than backwalk overs if your not flexible.. about 6 months
backtucks... 2 years.. depends on how fast you learn and how you can connect your round off backhandspring and make them really good

cartwheels are pretty easy I've taught most of my friends the first thing is to really get rid of a fear of having your body supporting by your hands. Round off are easy they pretty much come with the cartwheel once you get a cartwheel just put your legs tighter and twist but id do some other things to practice it first. Next handstands are very simple its all about practice when in a handstand tighten your arms and suck in your stomach when first trying this get a parent or friend to hold your legs of. Back handsprings can take a while to learn it toke me about 3months just lean back and jump. Back tucks to me are VERY easy but most couches wont let u do that till u have a back handspring

Cartwheel- one day
Handstand back walkover- if you have a good teacher, maybe a month
Back handspring- hard, maybe a couple months
Backflip- just learn the other stuff first, OK? (actually called backtucks)

Don't rush things to try to look good, you'll just end up hurting yourself. and have fun!

First off you really need to follow every instructon your instructors give you no matter how absurb it sounds.
(they really do know what they are talking about)

I can do a round off back hand spring on a mat in a gym or in front of a cheering crowd at a basket ball game but thats it.

I lost my standing once i got used to running and got a huge fear of it for 3 years and just did running ones. I just had to try out for my college team and when u are under pressure to have to do something like that on the spot it just comes to you.

Go to a gym and keep doing them with someone there, once they know u are good doing them they will prob move there hand away and then eventually move away completly...

take it in steps

you will get it back just whip it out like u know u can and don't hesitate to long before u throw it or it will never go.

well i started when i was a kid so it came easier and quicker, but since your older it'll probably take a while unless your naturally flexible. the main thing you need to do is practce, stretch, and also exercise enough to ensure that your body can take those kinds of movements. good luck!
