Well this is a good question.
It depends on how much expenses you can afford and what are the technical expertise available with you
Any ways here I offer you a few tips which you could think on.

I will suggest you to use thermocol or a trasperant material for building up your ribosome model.

As its structure is very simple, cut two pices of thermocol as small and large subunits and paint them with two different

colours. Here you can use a combinations of model. Use this first one as a intact one to demonstrate just the shape of it.

Now you can cut the thermocol in two different peices and show them as two subunits and explain it very briefly.

Having done so you can now expalin the intrinsic appearance and structure. You can show A, P and E sites which are L shaped and its easy to make. Becasue you can cut and carve the thermocol as you wish.

In the next model you can show the translation process. Use a wire as mRNA and show how it binds to above three

mentyiones sites and show the amino acids coming out as small plastic beads coated to the wire.

To make your model more impressive, use a sheet of paper and display on your stall or board. This will help you for a better

communication. Use this sheet for explaination of model. You can draw figures on this sheet and correlate the information with

your hand made model. This should go well.

Also add information of mRNA and riboseme, difference of prokaryotic and eucaryitic ribosome as a samll table. Arrange all the

information carefully on the sheet and explain it as well.
You may find it exhaustive but I assure you this will get you good applauses.

Bye

Ravi

Found a great website for you to go by. Maybe you could use food (candy) to create your ribosome example. The website actually shows the ribosomes on a smaller scale though. Good luck, sounds like an interesting project!

Use clay, or magic clay from crayola (the white stuff)
real clay is hard to use.
but the crayola stuff is easy and doesnt stick to everything
ive tried it myself.
Get a styrofoam ball and put the magic clay around it to get shape, then paint, or whatever you want to do with it.

also, if you need a ribosome, do you need to detail the processes that involve it, such as tRNA and mRNA going to it? If so, using a poster would be good, otherwise it can be single standing

im not really going for the ten point prize... but i recently was a substitute in a high school class where they had to create their own analogy for a plant and animal cell. it was very interesting to look at their models/posters and see what they used to represent each part. unfortunately, i dont remember a particular example for a ribosome (sorry). but it may be interesting to try to think of a similar example to use. pic something that your audience will be able to relate too. such as roadways/traffic/cops/cars/ etc that would be a different way to explain what they are and do.

Ribosomes are those things attached to the rough ER so i guess you cam make a model/poster of a rough ER and have Ribosomes all over it

Looking at this enlarged ribosomes images can be of help. Check out these ribosome images and you can make poster modelled by any of these :

Choose which image you want to make and I guess it will make things a nit easier for you. Good luck!

your best bet would be to make a model out of Styrofoam and then paint and label it. that is a lot easier than clay. The poster is a good idea to0.

Use this pic, maybe? And I would suggest a Styrofoam model mounted on a poster so you could draw and label around it.

try a 3-d model..

styrofoam? clay?

or a poster?
