Well, that depends on several factors. In the first place, if no one was around then how would you possibly know that there indeed WAS a moose in the woods, much less a dead one.?

yeah dead mooses can "fart"......when dead animals decompose, there is a gas buildup that will make the moose bloat, and it may cause or release gas as a fart, a pretty smelly one....
To answer your question: a sound is a sound, even if no one is around to hear it......

How long has it been dead for? From what I know when an animal dies all its body movements happen, so if it just died and released methane & it makes a sound then yes it made a sound regardless of whether people are around or not, its just that we don't know that it did.
