King of the hill right now are the Intel Core 2 Duo extreme
If you want to game, get an AMD FX processor, single core, but FAST, and not as expensive as the Intel extremes. If you want to do a lot of video editing, a lot of multitasking, go with an intel core 2 duo. Just make sure you get a Core 2, there are dual core Intel's, but the core 2 duo's are the newest and fastest.

Depends on what you use your computer for, gaming or work or household finance or whatever. For gaming, I was told that AMD was great but for anything else you want to go with Intel. Just what I was told, not sure how accurate it is.
