Of current and recent players, my number one pick has to be Roger Clemens. Anybody who can inspire a team to wait two years to retaliate for his meanness should not be out on the field. I don't care how good a player he is.
Kenny Rogers is a big jerk, whether he cheats or not.
Alex Rodriguez is still a mercenary in my eyes, and has cracked under the pressure in New York. He might be valuable elsewhere if he loses the ego (he is capable of this) and the salary (not likely, thanks to the union).
Barry Bonds? Can't speak to the steroids (and remember, they were legal at the time), but he is an arrogant cuss. Damn good player, though, with or without the steroids, and he isn't mean on the field like Clemens.
Historically? I would name Darryl Strawberry, the poster child for underachievement until A-Rod came along; Stan Williams, who enjoyed throwing at people and, if such a thing is possible, was even meaner than Clemens; Pete Rose, from long before the gambling scandal; Norm Cash, a cheater (he corked his bats); Gaylord Perry, another cheater - after he was safely esconced in the Hall of Fame, he admitted he doctored the baseball on a regular basis, just as he had been accused of doing; Juan Marichal, for hitting Johnny Roseboro over the head with a bat in 1965; and Bill Hands, a Cubs pitcher who also threw at batters. I never saw Sal Maglie pitch. Ty Cobb and John McGraw were long before my time.

Bonds is interesting, he seems "socially retarded" sometimes but the guy is an amazing hitter no matter what you think of him and there are times when the guy seems decent but most of the time but then he's got the steroid cloud over him. Plus, no one should have to deal with people you don't know telling them how much they hate you every day. So I have SOME sympathy for him...I know that makes me unpopular.
The player I can't stand the most is Mark Prior, pitcher for the Cubs. His attitude sucks. He thinks he's Roger Clemens...but he's really only had one full good year and he isn't afraid to trash talk. That's why I love the fact the Cards usually hit him hard.

I agree with you - Barry Bonds - he's so full of himself that its ridiculous. He thinks that he's the greatest player of all-time (NOT!) and all he cares about is adding to his personal statistics. Hope they find out over the off-season he most definitely used steroids and that he gets banned and has no chance of passing Aaron on the all-time HR list. He's a disgrace to baseball and a pathetic excuse of a human being.

Like "gotmelkyc28", I am also a huge Yankees fan, and I also want Sheff gone (to another team, at least) b/c he talks bad about Brian Cashman and Bobby Abreu(Abreu is so much better than him too)...I would also like Barry Bonds to have to go with the number of homeruns he hit before he started taking steroids, stop taking steroids, and total the number he accumulates in that time at the end of his career. See if he passes Hank or Babe then! I also have a comment on what people are saying about Derek Jeter. He has a great personality on and off the field, he's the leader of the team, and he has a talent for the game. In the Blue Jays organization, for one, they use DJ as an example for minor leaguers about how they should act and how they should play in the big leagues.

Sheffield, Jeter (such an arrogant jerk), Clemens, Shilling (again and arrogant buffoon), Belliard (put the tongue away), Bonds, Kenny, choke till he cheated, Rogers, Larry "Chipper" Jones, Scott Rolen, Albert Pujols (have some class Al)
Some of these guys are great talents, others not so much, but all have earned my ire!

Barry Bonds and Kenny 'the cheat' Rogers. Both are cheaters and both have just horrible attitudes and aren't afraid to show them to the media and public.

I am a HUGE Yankees fan, but I really can't stand Gary Sheffield!! He wants eveything his way, makes rude cracks about Steinbrenner, and thinks he is better than Abreu. He doesn't deserve to play for the Yankees and I just want him GONE. He is a sore loser and has a bad attitude and I am counting down the days until his name is nowhere near the Yankees roster.
Don't know if it's true but apparently Bonds and Sheffield are cousins?!?! If that's true, it makes a lot of sense.
