Does it have a catalytic converter?
If so, it might be shot(plugged up).

i own a repair shop,and it may have a bad distributor cap on it,or it has gotten moisture in it ,or it possibly could have jumped timing ,they will idle good sometimes when they jump ,but will back fire and run really bad if the chain,and gears are bad in them,you might want to pull the cap off of it and look at it to see if its wet or cracked,and if so replace it,other than that start checking things and make sure there ok,,good luck with it ,i hope this help,s.

The cars needs a good tune up including plugs, points, timing, carby and replace air and fuel filters.
Your car needs some TLC urgently

sounds like its not getting enough gas.check the gas filter,run a test on the fuel pump(you should have a shrader valve on the fuel rail)also it could be a bad fuel pump regulator.also clean the throttle body and check the air filter.

The catalytic converter may have collapsed. have it idling and put your hand in front of the tail pipe. If little or no blowing is felt the converter is bad.

does the check engine light come on? sounds like you may need to change the fuel filter.
