You can purchase certain vaccines in Canada if you live in a rural area and have a large number of animals to vaccinate. My brother used to live in northern BC and had about two dozen sled dogs. He was able to purchase and administer all vaccines except for rabies, which had to be done by a vet.

Here in Michigan Tractor Supply Stores sell vaccines and the syringes. I am sure mail order firms like Happy Jacks also carry them.
They sell rabies vaccine also, but Mi. law says a vet has to administer them to be considered a legal rabies vacination.
Being a dog breeder years ago,i did all my own vacinations and wormings, but still had a vet come out for the rabies shots and check-ups.He also took stool samples to check for parasite infestations.
To give the injection, you lift some of the dog's skin on the back of the neck, insert needle under the skin and empty the syringe.
For wormings, the new ivermectin's make broad spectrum wormings a snap. CAUTION: Alway's check expiration dates and administer according to directions. If you only have 1 or 2 pets,i recommend the usual vet visit, you wouldn't save enough to be worth the trouble.

Dog: DHLPP, annual
Cat: Distemper & FeLuk, annual
Both: Rabies Can be annual or a 3 year shot,
These can usually be purchased at a farm/feed supply store in the US. Or they can be ordered from on line at places like Valley Vet Supply. You don't need a prescription.
Rabies shots: You need to check state ordinances. There are several states that prohibit the shipment of rabies vaccines unless you are a licensed vet.
You can administer your own shots in the US. However if you travel or run into a legal issue like your dog bites someone, then you need proof from a vet that the animal has its proper vaccinations. Its just easier for the vet to do it, and in some states it is only legal for a vet to give rabies shots.
When I was running a large farm I did my own shots, however I bought them from my vet and he gave the dogs and cats their rabbies shots this way I had vet proof of vaccinations.
Hope this helps, good luck.

If your vet is going to help you, he'll also help you locate the vaccinations. He will tell you which vaccintions should be given based on your area, the animals history, whether the cats go outdoors, etc.
Here's the problem:
- for dogs and cats you MUST have the vet give the rabies vaccine.
- you also miss out on the vet spotting problems if you don't do the annual exam. Problems spotted earlier are cheaper and easier to solve than ones not seen for awhile.
In short, for pet dog/cat owners it's best the vet does this for you.

Ok I am assuming you maybe have a cat or dog - maybe both?!
Vaccination are not bought over the counter if its a cat of dog, you need to register you pet at you local pet. Once thats done you can make a appointment for their vaccinations.
I recently had my kitten vaccinated and it cost me £45, this was to prevent him from cat flu, and a couple other infections and viruses like rabies.. I didn't get him vaccinated for the outdoor like chlaymedia because hes a indoor cat.
However if you cat is going outside you would need to it vaccinated that would cost £65 yearly. You would most definatley have to get you dog vaccinated again rabies etc. By law a cat or dogs MUST be vaccinated for the rabies virus

I get the dogs and cats vaccines at Rural King. I've also found the vaccines at Country Supply store. Your vet would be able to give you the list of vaccines you can give yourself. You can't give the rabies vaccine yourself- the vet has to do it and you can't buy it privately, only vets can buy it.
An online place to buy your vaccines:
http://www.1800petmeds.com/dog.asp?LV=15&P=L&AFFID=OV&ID=19225157
I don't buy online, I just wander over to Rural King when its time for everybody to get their shots.

this is ridiculous. You need to have the vaccinations done by a veterinarian if you are in the U.S. Otherwise, there is no guarantee if the vaccines you buy are good. Vaccines are already dangerous for dogs, and lead to many medical problems when not administered correctly. Why are you trying to increase the risk of medical problems by not taking it to a vet?

Just take your pets to the vet. Would you let just anyone give you or your kids vaccinations?
