For the last several mornings, I have woken up feeling like I could throw up. Today, I passed out. My friend checked my blood glucose level and it was at 83, which she said is low. I just had my period, so I don't think I'm pregnant. What else could it be?

You could have reactive hypoglycemia. 80 is on the lowish side but not hypoglycemia per se. You can suffer hypoglycemic symptoms if your blood sugar drops quickly, so the number isn't always relevant. When you go to a doctor, ask for a glucose tolerance test, and an insulin test. I told doctors for years that I suspected I had hypoglycemia, and they would take my blood sugar once and say it was normal. After taking a glucose tolerance test I found out I had it.

83 is a normal blood sugar so your friend is not right. Normal is usually considered 70-110 for a blood sugar although at 70 some people do feel hypoglycemic. That fact that you are feeling sick in the morning and passed out today needs to be checked out. Remember some women do bleed when they are pregnant. Get checked out by the doc before something more serious happens.

Values of blood glucose levels can vary depending on physical activity, meals, and insulin administration. Also, normal value ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories.

Nevertheless, if you checked your range from before-meal glucose levels, levels should be of 90 to 130 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL); after-meal values of less than 180 mg/dL.

Therefore, if levels are (too) low, you could be in a state of hypoglycemia. Food should be eaten, and the individual may need to alter the next insulin dose and possibly future insulin doses as well.

You should consult with your doctor, about this issue. Abnormal results (low), particularly in a person not known to have diabetes, may indicate a need to obtain a fasting blood glucose or a glucose tolerance test.

A decreased consciousness (loss of consciousness), in relation to diabetes, is common in a diabetic coma (usually people with diabetes and hypoglycemia. This is another reason you should seek emergency medical treatment, treating yourself rapidly and appropriately with small, frequent meals with complex carbohydrates, fiber, and fat and avoiding simple sugars, alcohol, and fruit juice may be recommended, and if you believe you are pregnant, find out; because gestational diabetes, or diabetes that occurs during pregnancy, is diagnosed only by repeat testing of expectant mothers.

Although nausea (see also vomiting) is not associated with diabetes, you should have your physician check for diseases in which nausea is the primary symptom e.g. stomach cancer. Also, you must concider medications taken and contaminated foods you may have eaten.

Hope this answers your question!

I passed out recently and had a glucose level of 84 when they tested me. That is a decent range so it leads me to think it is something to do with your blood pressure or perhaps anxiety. Do you have any other symptoms around the onset of the passing out? those could be key to why you passed out

This is no time to play guessing games. Low blood sugar could indicate a lot of conditions. Get to a doctor asap!

I do believe that you should be asking these question to a doctor. And not to a lot of people without medical experience............... One more thing why would someone just after you faint feel that they should check your gloucose level, are you a diabetic. If so then maybe your sugar was just to low at that time.
