The other people are correct. First make sure you can raise the door by hand. If you can do it with little force then your opener has a problem. I bet you have either the Mod. 3595 or 3575. Either way you may want to try loosening the tension on the chain. If it is too tight it makes the opener work too hard and overheat. The overheating protects your motor from burning up. If the chain is okay and the door is fine you should call a garage door guy because it may be an RPM sensor or a bearing in the motor is shot. If it is the bearing, it does have a lifetime warrranty. Good luck

Not sure if this will help, there was a trade of the contract on
some models and their electronics failed due to oversold
scan board. They were involved in a recall this happened in
1966 and 1996 thirty years later. Every so often a miscalculate
on wiring is because it is stresses that have no previous data.
Take the whole engine to a craftsman rental place for a
technitia to look at it.

Best tip: don't buy that cheap craftsman junk. I have a number of craftsman woodworking tools, no good for finish work. seriously your opener is working too hard. pull the release and lift the door by hand if you can. if its not easy for you then you can't expect the opener to do it either. Prob need to tighten your tension springs.

If it is a Craftsman it should have a lifetime warranty. Take it back to where you got it or contact Craftsman & ask them. I cannot imagine your garage door is too heavy for it, but who knows!! Maybe?

This is what I think you need to do based upon the description of your problem. Remove power to the power head. Pull the release rope and lower the garage door - be careful as it may free-fall - CRASH!. The get up there an manually turn or move the carrier so that it is away from the stop. Then adjust the limit switch.

Pull the emergency release and make sure the door operates smoothly. If it moves freely by hand then the problem is in the operator. If it doesn't look at the top of the door and make sure one of the springs is not broken. If it is call a repairman to change the spring. The operator is not made to lift the weight of the door it is made to move the door. The springs are supposed to counter balance the weight of the door.
