The Tsunamis are created by several ways. If the magnitude of earthquake is more than 7 in Richter scale, if the energy released due to the movement of earthquakes by tectonic plates in up and down motion. Even some times if the earthquake epicenter is in the sea but the energy released in an Island can not cause Tsunami. That is what has happened on 28th March 2005 at Sumatra Island. The scientist all over alerted the people to move away from seashore. But I am only the person issued the denial report that there can not be any Tsunami attack. I have issued the warning 2 hours before the real Tsunami attack on 26th Dec 2004. But it was ignored. All was possible for me by a simple quake alarm designed by me and my close observation on those days. Even volcanic eruption and land slip may cause Tsunami. But it is rare. A tsunami is usually created by displaced water. The more displaced water, the greater the tsunami, and therefore the greater damage it can do once it hits land. Water can be displaced by things like massive landslides into the ocean, or earthquakes causing upwards or downwards shift of sea floor. So, the greater the earth's movement causing water displacement, the greater the tsunami created, and damage it can cause.
