It is called "Ick"...my grandmothers guppies had it, you can buy an additive for the water at your pet store or al Wal-Mart that will control the "Ick". After treatment once, she has not gotten it again. Be picky where you buy your fish...sometimes the ones you buy may already have it and infect your tank at home.

Does the "stuff" look like little white spots? If so your guppies have a disease called "Itch". They will usually try to rub themselves on rocks as if they are itchy and develop white spots on their body and fins. You will have to get some medication for them from a pet shop and add it to the tank for a few weeks.
Another common disease with guppies is "fin rot" where their tail fin starts to look ratty and torn. The same medication should treat both diseases.
Good luck.

Fish like guppies is very vulnerable to disease.. i think the best way is to separate your guppies with disease into a fishbowl until the disease was healed... always keep your aquarium's water clean. Everyweek replace the 20% of your aquariums water with a clean one.. every month clean the entire aquarium. Use water filters.

What kind of stuff? This sounds like a fish disease, and can be transmitted to new fish from the rocks/gravel and plants in your aquarium.
Do you have a heater?

if you mean growing stuff on them after they die that is just fungus eating the remains (which isnt a problem)
if you mean on your fish before they die, you have either ick (greenish area/s) or another disease, cant remember name, (whitish spots)
