See joaquin phoenix was "trying" to BE Johnny Cash. We cannot compare the two of them because they were meant to sound the same. Johnny Cash is famed for his low husky voice and while Joaquin Phoenix did a very good job, he couldn't match Johnny's vocals. Hence that is why he is an actor and not a musician. Now if Joaquin Pheonix was to go and record something, then we can compare the two.

Are you serious? Do you really think Joaquin Phoenix (or anybody else) could sing better than Johnny Cash??

Yes, Johnny Cash was a music legend and Joaquin Phoenix isn't. However, Mr. Phoenix's voice was purer and a bit clearer. I liked his better than Mr. Cash's voice.
