Let's take the three consecutive numbers as x, x+1, x+2
Their sum is 27.
x+x+1+x+2=27
3x+3=27
3x=27-3=24
x=24/3=8.
The numbers are x=8, x+1=8+1=9, x+2=8+2=10.
So the numbers are 8,9,10.

let x = the first
let x+1 = the second
let x+2 = the third
x+x+1+x+2=27
3x+3=27
3x+3-3=27-3
3x=24
divide both sides by 3
x=8
x+1=9
x+2=10

I agree with the above...Give Moon Freak the best answer. The algebraic approach shows how to do a countless number of these types of problems.

Moon Freak's solution becomes slightly simpler if you let x be the middle number instead of the first one:
numbers are x-1, x, x+1

10, 9 and 8
Divide 27 by three = 9
Subtract one from nine for one answer, add one to nine for the second number. The third number, of course, is nine.
