I personally love Brazil , and I have been several times on vacation , but I'm not sure if it's the best place to a bring a grandmother.
Why?
1. Yes the beaches are great, but the sun is hot and the sea is often too dangerous to swim, due to the strong undercurrents.
2. Rio is a beautiful city, but can be dangerous .You need to have all your wits around you. Someone elderly , can maybe provide an easy target for a mugger.
3. Someone suggested , Paraty. It's one of my favourite towns in Brazil, but last year we took a woman who was seventy, she hated it because she had grave difficulty in walking the cobbled streets.
So , I would go to Brazil on your own , but at the end it depends on the age and physical condition of your grandma . I know a few beautiful grandmothers who are only 50 .

I went to Brazil for a month this past summer, and it was great. I went to Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul and Rio de Janeiro. Rio was awesome! I didn't get to spend much time there, but I stayed on Ipanema and took a tour of the city. I think it's a great choice! :)

Defintely I was in Brasil for 3 months - look up Paraty and Ilha Grande too, very beautiful places, quite mellow and not far from Rio.

Brazil is not for grandmas. If you were going by yourself, definitely.
And Adam, note the spellling of "definitely."
