There will be a big push to sign Soriano; could either replace Valentin at 2nd or Floyd in left. Not too many quality 2nd baseman on the FA market - Loretta or Ray Durham may be a 2nd/3rd choice.

Mets could go after any number of outfielders to replace Floyd in left. I like Gary Matthews Jr for his defense and breakout offensive year and/or hone Chavez to be an everyday player. I think Milledge will be dangled in a trade for a front-line pitcher - Glavine might be headed back to Atlanta for his 300th win. Heilman may be on his way out also.

Zito is a proven winner and might be worth the gamble, all depends on how well the shoulder surgery went. I like Brad Radke, Twins, Jeff Suppan, Cards, and Eaton and Padilla of the Rangers. Mets need to work on a healthier rotation in 2007. The rest of the position players are pretty well set - not sure about Shawn Green in rightfield.

Just don't understand Billy Wagner's performance in the playoffs!? It seemed like he was throwing 400 ft softballs.

First HR isn't by potential of a Met for my area.. yet I propose ..they open against the Padres.. So i visit pass out on a limb and say Beltran hits the 1st HR interior the 4th inning. then Wright and Delgado hit HR's interior the eighth and ninth and that they win the 1st activity 6-3. i might say they shop Beltran, Church Anderson and Sheffield on the hollow day roster... in all probability Murphy or Tatis too. Sheffield will platoon with Anderson i think of.

I like the current roster, but it is obvious that they need to upgrade at the following positions:

We know Cliff Floyd will be let go.
Mota may not be re-signed because of his suspension

2B
Starting Pitcher

I would explore trading Miledge and Heilman for a top line starter - Dontrelle Willis

Try to sign Jason Schmidt from San Francisco

I would probably sign Mark Loretta for 2B, he can handle the bat as well as field and would fit in the clubhouse

This is a toughie. I'm really happy with the 2006 roster. Personally, I really don't wanna see anyone go but some of them have, unfortunately, decided to do so (like Tom Glavine) :( I just hope they keep Jose Valentin and find a good replacement for Tom Glavine and add some badly needed addiditional players (pitchers being the most important).

I would like to see them stay together- floyd is injured to often to make a difference, valentin should be a utility guy-not a starter-Delgado will probably not be back -too bad but he costs so much-
I think that SHEFFIELD would be a good fit for the mets- willing to play first, still a decent outfielder-good arm, battle tested veteran and has dealt with willie randolph before- might be good for a one year w'option

Tough question, they had a really good year just to bad the injuries may have played a key role in them not winning it all. With that said I think if I had to pick one it would be Rickie Ladder. He was not used much and I do not see where he fits next year. A lot will be determined in how busy they are in the off season with trades and free agency.

The Mets had a great season! They don't need any changes, they need to stay healthy. If they had both pitchers that were injured in the play they may have won it all.

Steve Traschel, they need to get better starting pitching. Hopefully Pedro Martinez won't retire...
