A 45 degree angle is half of a 90 degree angle, which is the corner of a square. To see it really easily you can do one of two things:

1) Make an L with your thumb and forefinger. Then just bring the fingers together halfway.

2) Take a regular piece of paper and fold it diagonally at the corner so that the edges of the paper match up. That is 45 degrees.
