The only block of voters in Congress who were going to put a stop to it was the House Republicans. They were going to have enforcement, no amnesty. They are out of power.

first: immigration is good!
Mexican immigration is better,,,perse

No, American will take a JOB making $3.25 an hour cutting lettuce in California. When they can get welfare at 6 dollars and hour...
Now, I could blame the democrats for this...but this is an on-going struggle. I am a democrat..meaning the welfare issue. But, for 12 yrs congress has been controlled by the GOP and before it was balanced...one party controlling the senate or the house..So, the Welfare issue is MUTE.

The govt understands the need for immigration. Do you really want to pay $10 for a head of lettuce??? i think it needs to be controlled in some way but how? Will the fence work? or is that another waste of tax dollars?

Yet, at the same time, the fence reminds me a lot of the Berlin wall...trying to put a division between two peoples trying to survive. For a moment, put your self in the Mexican shoes...if the roles are reversed would you not go to Mexico to feed your starving child? or better your self as a human being...I can not fathom why Americans try to cast the first stone when every American here is either A: European descent or B: Serbian(American Indian) C: African
(if i missed any sorry)
We are all immigrates seeking a better life

EDIT: the immigrates keep the prices low by working under minimum wage..they are a must for the economy..Americans are greedy and would rather sell drugs and kill innocents than make money below the govt standard minimum wage

As a way to get Mexicans to Vote Republican Bush has been voting to keep it open only for votes and support though. That's the same/only reason he gave a Mexican-American that position. It's sad and wrong he used him and many other Mexicans for votes.
I almost always go with the Democratic side of things but this is the one things I agree with the Republicans on. We need to either close up the border or somehow not allow illegal immigrants to use social security money and not send the money they make back to Mexico. It hurts our economy very bad.
One way to fix this is to allow more Mexican scholarships (yes I know it sounds weird not supporting some of their immigration and then offering them scholarships but....) so that they can all get a good education and have good jobs so they won't need to use our social security money. If you are worrying about the government putting to much money on these scholarships remember that once they have money they will pay taxes or someone will notice and in return the government will get that money back in taxes. But this will only work if WE DON'T ALLOW THE MONEY TO BE SENT BACK TO MEXICO!!!

Frankly, I don;t think its going to make a big difference. While the Democrats tend to be more attentive to human rights, the GOP wants cheap labor. I think they'll write up a few things, maybe pass a few laws, but I don't think we're going to see a big change in the immigration situation, they'll likely just make it tougher for people trying to get in legally, as always.

It means you will still have to go to work. You will still have to be a productive citizen. Too much emphasis is put on the leaders you elect. They are only as influencial as you allow them to be.

Bush is opening up our borders so it doesn't matter. Read it in this REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE magazine article. http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=14965
