First of all they can estimate a baby's weight but so often it is wrong. There is no way to know for sure how big your baby is until he is born. I have had so many friends say there Dr. estimated a big baby and it was in th elow 7's, that is average, not big. Also I would never encourage induction unless the Dr. or caregiver suggests. It can cause complications, and some things are actually dangerous. Another reason is, if the baby is not quite ready it will make your labor expereince longer and harder. It could be something as small as the baby'sposition that is keeping you from going into labor, that was my scenario on #3. After his head moved into a better position I delivered in 15 min, had we gone ahead earlier with it ina bad position it could have been a really long labor. Besides 38 weeks is not technically complete, although for some women it is. Some baby's need more time to develop, you know the lungs are the last and you don't want it to end up in ICU because you induced and it wasn't completely developed.

As a mother of three that were all overdue by at least a week and i got induced with two of them i can honestly say they will come when they are good and ready.
I tried everything you could think of that was safe of course and as sex doesn't do to much cause it requires to much sperm to induce but it is fun trying, walking I walked on a treadmill for the last three weeks of my pregnancy for 1 hour a day though i lost 10 lbs it did not help
Don't take any laxatives or oils that anyone has to suggest they just tear up your stomach and you end up with braxton hicks and an upset stomach NO FUN as for herbal pills a bunch of loaded crap they do nothing and taste horrible and the bouncing on an exercise ball it is fun and can releave stress but doesn't do anything either these of course were all for me you are different so one of these might work for you just don't do the laxatives or oils or liquids for help they can hurt you or the baby
just smile and enjoy it cause in a couple years there will be many of these memories gone for much better ones best of luck with all

Hi Amanda, congratulations on your pregnancy! Very exciting that you will be seeing your baby soon! Just wanted to mention that there's no real way to tell exactly how much your baby weighs until it's actually born. Ultrasound measurements have a history of being inaccurate. It's not uncommon for a woman to be told her baby weighs over 8 pounds and when it's born it's only 6 pounds.
There are some natural ways to help bring on labour but they only work if your body and your baby are ready for labour. I'm sorry that your care provider has undermined your confidence in your body and your ability to birth your baby. Your body does work amazingly well, though, you were not given a lemon : )
Lots of conscious relaxation will help you as your birth gets nearer and also it helps you to bond with your baby and listen to what your body and baby are telling you. Stress can actually make it harder to go into labour because it inhibits the hormones that drive labour.
Some natural things you could try (that will only work if your body is ready) are walking, sex, evening primrose oil, fresh pineapple.
Babies are born when they are ready and inducing labour can risk your baby being born too early - like picking an apple before it is ripe. So the safest way to go into labour is to let your body do it when it's ready.
Best wishes for your labour and birth and I hope you enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and have a lovely babymoon with your new bundle of joy.

Nothing will start it for sure, but lots of walking and sex are supposed to help. It's infuriating how slowly time goes towards the end! Try to get your mind off of it, because you might just frustrate yourself and the baby won't be any closer to coming than he was before!
I went into labor at 38 weeks and my son weighed just slightly over 7 pounds, though yours might not be "ready" until he is bigger and has been in for longer. My dad used to always say "no one tells the baby when he's supposed to come!" Above all, just try not to stress too much!
Good Luck!

Congrats! There are several ways, but first I would encourage you to think it over. Doctors can only estimate the baby's weight and as a mom of three, i can tell you they weren't correct on any of mine!
Sex is not only fun and relaxing but can stimulate your labor. Walking is very helpful and there's always taking a gentle stool softener. All of these can stimulate contractions. But, truly, the baby will come when God and the baby are ready!
Good Luck and enjoy...they don't stay young long!

Hey we share the same due date! Congratulations girl!! Is this your first pregnancy? This is mine and here lately I have been feeling a lot of cramping and I've been using the bathroom a lot (# 2). Other than that, I wouldnt want to bring my baby in the world any sooner than he needed to be here....just let it come naturally...when he is ready, believe me he WILL be here. Good luck with everything!!

there is a strawberry myth that if you eat strawberries you will go into labour, i didn't believe that until my family gave me a surprise baby shower 3-4 weeks before my due date, the cake was a fresh strawberry filling and i laughed at the myth until i woke up on monday to get ready for work and had some cramping (like i was getting my period) went to see the doctor who told me to go to the hospital and was told that i was in labour, i gave birth about 14 hours later

First of all Congrats!!! Second there are a few safe inducers such as sex, nipple stimulation, pineapple, any kind of exercising or streching, certain teas, and as a last resort castor oil, I say this because it can cause diareha, cramps, neasuea.
Good luck!!!

Yep, first i wish to tell you all my docs told me my little one was going to be over 9 lbs!!! turned out she was 6lbs 10 oz, big difference. She was full term. Second, Sex han help a great deal, semen can help sofen the cervix and orgasm can kick start contrations. Nipple stimulation and walking can help get those contrations going as well. That it all i recomend safe. Good luck and I hope your little bundle will be in your arms soon!

what's the rush?? Let that baby come out when it is good and ready, so what if it gets a bit bigger, it will be healthier! Try the sex, nipple stimulaion and mild exercising, swimming might help too, GOOD LUCK and congratulations!!!!
