Wish you had said where the leak was on the tank, but. Remove tank, drain and let sit for a day with cap off. Fill with water and dish soap mix (completely fill), take oxygen/acetylene torch and appropriate rods (I often use metal clothes hangers) to repair the hole/leak. Once the repair is finished check the leak. Once you are satisfied that it is fixed, drain the solution and flush with clean water. After you have completely flushed all the soapy solution from the tank, drain and let sit and dry for a day at least. In most any hotrod type magazine you will find a solution that you pour into your tank and it coats the inside and completely seals. It is not expensive for the solution. Once this sits and dries over night, reinstall (also a good time to replace any rubber fuel lines under the vehicle or around the tank.

I'll second the JB Weld. I've used it on gasoline and diesel tanks and never had another drip come out. Pretty good stuff for a five minute job and about $4.00 worth of materials.
