Assuming your son is old enough to start sleeping through the night (6-8 weeks), my answer is as follows:

If you start pumping now, your body will keep making milk for this particular feeding. If that's not a problem for you (you're awake and it doesn't interrupt your schedule), then go ahead and pump. You'll be happy to have the extra milk on hand for emergencies.

If he's sleeping through a middle of the night feeding and you don't want to pump during the middle of the night, don't start now. Allow your body to adjust to his needs.

This is really up to you. What i did is pump when ever i could and stored what i could in teh freezer. That way if i needed to i had it in the fridge. I ended up with 30 or more bags in the freezer and it came in handy when i was in a rush or i had to work. I found that the more I pumped the better and the better supply i had stored up. And you may feel more comfortable if you pump instead of skippin a feeding!

If you are not engorged or uncomfortable I would not pump. It's all supply and demand, if you pump it tricks your body into thinking it is a feed and will continue to replenish. If your milk supply is good, then don't pump, but if you want to increase your supply then pumping could help-or wake him to feed (especially if it's been 4hrs between feeds).

If you're engorged, you should probably pump a little off the top to help you stay comfortable. If you're not feeling engorged, don't worry about it. You shouldn't empty your breast because if your baby wakes up right after, he'll be frustrated that all the milk is gone. Sometimes it takes a while to replenish your breasts.

I never pumped if my children slept through a feeding and never had a problem.

I would pump in case he is starting to change his schedule. That way you still maintain a lot of milk. Also it is a good time to take advantage of extra milk production, if he doesn't need it right away you can freeze it for a more convenient time. Maybe for a date?!

personally I would wait, but if you are in pain from engorgement it is ok to pump. if your baby is old enough for a bottle, then you can pump and feed that to him/her later, or just pump enough to relieve the pain.

Yes you can pump. How old is your baby? If he is very young and not gaining then wake him up. Otherwise I would wait until he is awake.

go ahead and pump if he/she missed a feeding- it keeps your milk supply up to where it needs to be-plus you can freeze that milk & use it at a later time-3or 4wks fridge freezer (in a proper container)
