if you were to develop the first human extraterrestrial settlement...what society that you already know about might you choose as models for the extraterrestrial community. And how would you avoid modern society problems?

Star Trek and Stargate Atlantis.I wouldn't bring any lobbyists or politicians.Sometimes Sci-fi fantasy makes more sense than reality.

I think the Ten Commandments (disregarding Theological issues) would be a good starting point - don't you?

Isn't it odd that humans think they are so much smarter than God - God only needed 10 laws to govern human behaviour, but humans need thousands (maybe millions) of laws governing human behaviour. Was God short-sighted or are humans just so much more clever than God???

like mentioned above, I think it'll be similar to star-trek. There is probably going to be a warrior race, some super super smart race, some merchant race, etc.

And to the guy who criticized humanity for having thousands of laws - god doesn't exist silly :)
