I think the ability to be either are put into all of us at birth. My mom works in a hospital and I hear all the time about these miracle babies in the Intensive Care Nursery. The doctors and parents always say "They are really fighting". I believe that you are either born with that or you are not. Also the environment you are raised in can either nurture that or ruin it.

People are born with inclinations toward being a certain way, but they may not be exactly like that. Say a little boy is inclined to be very shy, but his father who he inherited this trait from is not in the picture so his mother raises him to be a stronger person. He may not be the bravest of the brave, but because he was brought up not to be shy he is less so that if he had grown up with a parent that didn't really infuence him to be one way or the other. With emotions it is harder to tell for me. There is most likely more to do with your experiences when it comes to emotions, but I don't think too many people could give you a finite answer on that.

People learn how to be emotionally secure. It takes longer for some people than others, depending on their family and social education.
