In 1980 Congress established the Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians. The Commission determined that the Japanese-Americans were victims of discrimination by the Federal government. And in 1988 President Ronald Reagan signed the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 which gave a Presidential apology and $20,000 to all the Internees who lost property and their civil rights because of the discrimination during WWII.
