Not ligh bulbs, LED or fire. But the light itself, what is it and where does it come from?

light is nothing more than electromagnetic waves which can be sensed by our eyes.
it came from lanterns! when you give energy to a material (a lamp filament for instance), i.e. heat it, electrons of its atoms get energy and travel to a higher level of energy(orbit). but in this state, atom is unstable so the raised electrons come back to their original orbit which has a lower level of energy. this energy difference(between two orbits) is emitted by an electromagnetic wave which sometimes is visible light.

Where Does Light Come From

Light is an electromagnetic wave. As the electric field changes, it causes a magnetic field. As the magnetic field changes, it causes an electric field. Together they take turns back and forth in the form of a traveling wave.

Light is generally produced when electrons or other charged particles are accelerated.

This acceleration happens when something is hot (incandescent bulbs, fire), when it has an applied electric field which is changing rapidly (refraction, reflection, scatter), when it falls to a lower energy atomic or molecular state (atomic spectra, mercury lamps, fluorescence, different colors of flame, LEDs), etc.

Radio antennas and microwave ovens are examples where non-visible "light" is produced by applying voltages directly to the electrons.

Sorry if this is more detail than you want. Hopefully someone will find it of interest.

Light is a form of energy that is given off when electrons "jump" orbits. Energy is neither created nor destroyed so the energy has to go somewhere and it is released in the form of electromagnetic radiation "light."
