I was a barista, the manager split; I'm in charge now. It's a cafe w/a number of dishes, sandwiches we make there. This is a very broad/vague question, i know. The job's a bit overwhelming. Perhaps someone has some caveats, thoughts.

Make a list and stick to it. Start formulating what needs to be done *before* you get to work to start your shift. Organization is key. Rally other dependable people to help you organize and complete certain projects.
Get to know everyones schedule, the inventory, the menu and the employment policies. Also, get to know your customers so that they come back. Don't treat them, and don't let your staff treat them, like a burden.
Organization. Knowledge.Confidence.
