Freshwater fish do not actively drink water, but absorb the water through their skin and gills (osmosis). On the other hand, saltwater fish do actively drink sea water. Their gills process the water and take out the salt.

fish never get thirsty because the reason we get thirsty is because all the cells in our body need water. In a fish water is constantly going into the fish through osmosi (the diffusion of water) so they fish are never thirsty
