You could try ascorbic acid powder in his food or water. Ascorbic acid is the cheap kind of Vitamin C, and the only kind that might work for this.
My dog was diagnosed with bladder stones, which I had read can be treated with ascorbic acid. My vet said no, it wouldn't work. But I took him to another vet who said to give him ascorbic acid, and lots of parsley. I'm sure the guinea pig would eat parsley! So there was a difference of opinion about the ascorbic acid, so I made up my own mind. I followed the second vet's advice and his symptoms got better within a few days. I kept him on parsley and ascorbic acid for several months. The problem never came back, and he died years later of old age.
How much? Ascorbic acid is not toxic. When you take too much, it is eliminated through the urine. This is what you want. It makes the urine more acidic so it will dissolve the stones. If you take WAY too much, it causes diarrhea. If this happens, use less.
Hope this helps.

Unfortunately there is no way to cure the little guys once they have the stones, all you can do is try to prevent them next time.
Defininately get a second opinion.
Doctor's make mistakes, they don't know everything, and every once in awhile you will find one that's a little shady, prescribing treatment that's not needed for the money. Always get a second opinion before all surgery, that includes you, family members as well as pets, it's better to be safe than have unnessary surgery.
The GP's treatment is up to you, of course, but keep in mind that it's not fair to let him suffer. Do the right thing immediately if that's your decision.
Good luck

You can always get a second opinion from another small animal vet, but most likely, if the vet says the piggy needs surgery, then that's probably what needs to be done.

The reason why your guinea pig has kindey stones is because it doesn't have enough water inits system.I would suggest a lot of water.

You can check your Yellow Pages or another phone book for nearby vets, and it should tell you the number or address where you can check on the prices, Best wishes, CoCo T.
