By getting an epidural...no pain from the waist down, and you still have the pleasure of watching your baby come into the world. I, myself, do not have a strong tolerance for pain, and no one was going to give me a medal if I gave birth without some means of pain relief. I found the epidural to be a wonderful thing. You still have to go through hours of labor before you can have one, so breathe deeply, and walk alot to make the cervix dialate faster.

Everyone is different. Some women can deal with the pain and some can't, some don't even feel anything at all. (<<< those are the women I HATE)!
I had to give birth without epidural due to the fact it was too late for one. I cried and cursed, and tried to break my husband's hand. I wouldn't tell anyone to not get the epidural, I'd be the first person to tell someone to get it. I know what it feels like to have a baby without it and it HURT!

When you are in the worst pain of your life you just rememebr you will soon be holding a little life, and all the pain will be over soon. Epidurals are a great way to help keep the labor pain away, at least the point where you actually birth, you will always have some pain before with contractions and such.
I havent had the opertunity to go through real labor, i had a c-section with my first, but even that was more pain then i wanted to deal with. I am looking foreward to the option of natrural vaginal birth with my second, knowing full well of the pain i will be having. Just rememebr, you have to go through pain one way or another. So just rememebr the positive end, and scream if you need :)

I just got through it by telling myself, "This is only temporary, and it will be over soon." I avoided the epidural since I've known too many women who got that and then ended up having to have a c-section, and I've just heard too many horror stories about it. I had planned on using demerol, but then by the time I got to the hospital I was fully dilated, so, too late. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, although everyone's experience is different. I would say just play it by ear, cause you never know exactly what it's going to be like for you.

not to scare you but when you are in labour, there is no turning back, you just do it.
i look back at the birth of my 1st child and thought wow i made it through that?
they had to put a needle in me for the intravenus, 3 attempts, one needle was bent to a "c" shape, the other time it did not go into my vein so my forearm was swelling due the fluid and the last time it administered by an emergency nurse in to my other arm but later when it was taken out i had a bruise 3/4 the size of my forearm, each time it was painful
i was unable to get the epidural as the nurse was called away due to an emergency (i don't know why, at the time i thought i was an emergency..)
i gave birth but tore pretty bad and had to be stitched up and THAT was painful
i later got up to go to the bathroom and lost quite a bit of blood that i passed out
but i survived it as will you and the bonus? the beautiful baby in your arms

for myself, I accepted the fact that this is going to the worst pain ever and I got over my fear. Fear is 90% of labor, i worked on it since I learned of my pregnancy and by the time the big day came I was ready, focused on my breathing and talk with my baby, 'keep coming, its okay,'
this is what I did, also b/c I didnt want a needle in my back, that was scary, what if I move wrong and the needle breaks in my back, that was frighten. Ask yourself how tolerate are you with pain, if its low, get some drugs, if you think you can handle it, go for it and see, just remember the window of opportunity for drugs ends at 8 centimeters, good luck to you

It is not really a matter of coping it is a matter of not having any other choice. I mean what are you going to do get up and say, I don't think I can do this today. Epidural sure does help though.

I just kept thinking of the "end result". the thought of that beautiful baby got me thru it AND keeping in mind that millions of women have more than one baby & if it was that horrible no-one would ever have more than one. Don't get me wrong - there is pain involved - but it's truly worth it. I promise!
