I have a macbook pro with A 2GHZ CORE DUO, 2GB of ram, 256MB ATI X1600. Basically its crazy fast but I hear that the core 2 duo is a bit faster and lot cooler temperature wise. The temp makes a difference cause you want to be able to use it on your lap etc. I got a sweet deal on the one I have and so its loaded with ram and the top graphics card. If I buy the new core 2 duo macbook pro for 2000 it will have a slightly faster chip (2.16) but al gig less ram and only half the memory on the graphics card. Do you think I should just keep the one I have or should I get the new one?

Forget the Intel "Core 2 Duo" and look instead to those using the new AMD Turion. If you have the money, have a look at the new Alienware notebooks - Mac has NOTHING which even scratches the surface on these bad-boys (esp if you opt for the 1GB of graphics memory) ...you'll never look back

First of all, the Core 2 Duo isn't that big a step over the Core Duo, only a 10% increase in performance on average.

Also, you can actually buy a Core 2 Duo processor and put it in your Macbook. The first Core 2 Duo processors at least will work just fine in Core Duo notebooks.

The newer Core 2 Duo Macbooks do have a faster DVD writer, a couple of extra ports and a few other improvements though

I suggest you keep your Macbook. With laptops, they get outdated the minute you buy em, when you get your Core 2 Duo Macbook, then there'll be Quad Core Macbooks on the horizon, you will never be happy.

Sounds like the machine you have now is fine. Honestly with the lack of RAM you will probably notice more of a slowdown than a speed up. But having the cpu run cooler could mean an extended overall life of the machine. I personally wouldn't switch.

You already have the latest technology and changing it will really cost you. It's really up to you. You are the consumer. If you want more, why not. Go for it if it will make you happy. Listen to yourself. Good luck.
