Your cervix can become soft anywhere from a few weeks to a few days away. Just be patient, and hope it starts to open if your in a hurry, just dont help it along with a finger, that can introduce bacteria, and cause huge problems, brusing and makeing it more difficult to open.

My cervix was soft 3 1/2 weeks before I went into labor. It was 2 more weeks before I started dilating and effacing.

Why do people keep asking questions like this on Yahoo answers instead of asking a doctor? Don't you understand that there are people on this site who answer questions wrong on purpose?
