Yes the cost is going to be high. The retail prices is $499.99, but good luck with that. I was #3 and #6 on two separate preorder lists (having put money on each). Both stores are only getting 2 systems, so unless someone cancels or doesn't show up to get it within 24 hours....I'm out a system. Sony did reduce the number of systems released to 400,000 in the US, but I'm sure that was to generate more and more demand...just like the XBOX did with the 360. Ebay Preorders are as high as $1600 right now. Sony has promised and secondary release date of February 10th or 11th of another 400,000 systems. For a savings of $1200....I can wait till February. As for the locking systems, I've heard that it was a costly option that Sony was willing to put into the system if Game Companies would pony up money for them to do it. Nobody wanted to fund it, so Sony didn't do it. Could you imagine how much that would suck? Just imagine having a collection of even 10 games and your system breaks....your games would be useless to you, even if your system was replaced.

No, that's not true. That was just rumor. Sony is smarter than that. They know if they did that they will won't make that much money. The blu-ray disc is a disc they used to give their games the true HD experience. Plus more features, better graphics, more expanded environments (larger than the average GTA game), and crisp sound. The only thing I heard recently about the PS3 locking, is a security system. Where if you were the last person to turn off the system, you can be the only one to turn it back on. It's like a finger swipe thing like they have on laptops.

Blu-ray is a dvd disc that has multiple layers of information storage and can hold... eh... ~40+ gb maybe? Not sure about the locking it into your system though.

i dont think thats true, google it.but blu-ray does give you 50gb of storage, more than 5 times the amount of the 360 dvds.360 can do prosthetic synthesis(pretty much compressing stuff) because it uses dvds while on blu-ray everything needs to be layed out.but still blu-ray will have more storage
