im trying to register a server under my wireless network connection ip adresss and it says that adress has already been registered, even though i've never done this before

You cannot have two computers with the same IP address. Either one or both will cease to access the internet.

You CAN have two computers behind a router, with the router having one IP address, and have them both access the 'net at the same time. This usually is only done on DSL or T1 systems where public IP addresses are expensive.

Check to make sure that your server is not trying to use the same IP address as the wireless router, and make sure that you are not trying to give it an IP address that it does not already have. Many systems, including servers, are set to automatically assign itself and IP address that is given by the router.

No ... you will get conflicts ... each and each gadget has to have this is own IP (internet Protocol) handle It perhaps attainable that on 2 seperate networks you will locate a similar IP handle ... working example at homestead I truthfully have 192.168.0.a million and at artwork I truthfully have a gadget with a similar IP ... yet because of the fact we are utilizing 2 distinctive modems they have distinctive IP addresses so the easily internet in basic terms see's the IP adress of the Modems ... not the easily computing gadget's

You didn't say if it was on a home network or a corporate network, or even a wireless hotspot.
If it doesn't like that IP, you can usually try another.
I have also seen people trying to connect using the software that came with the wireless card or router, in addition to XP's wireless connection software.
One or the other can be used, but many times they conflict and you will be unable to connect with either.

No it is not possible for two computers to have the same IP address on the same network.
