Where I used to work I had a rat there and named him Mr. Pickles.

Rats are wonderful pets. Congrats on your future pet. The best way to name a rat, is to spend the first few days, getting to know it's personality. By doing so, a name might just pop into your mind.
Here are names of rats I've owned:
(Females): Kota, Jade, Rachel, Bullet, Dawn, Sarabi, Lucky, Jasmine, Roxie, Hannah, Delilah, Ginger
(Males): Splinter, Big Ben, Howie, Samson, Kokoa, Jigsaw, Twiggy

A male rat: Johannas
Not sure about female but if you get a rat - make sure you get two (they love company, they're very social animals).
