you can put a gfci (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) anywhere you want. they are ususally recommended anywhere that the outlet is in reach of a wet work area. Such as the sink in the kitchen, outside outlets, and yes the bathroom. For safety's sake, I would make all of the outlets in the bath GFCI outlets.

You don't have to but have the gfci on a plug it can be in the breaker box. If you are talking about a plug separate from what the tub is running on then I would either use a plug with a cover or keep it far enough away that water wouldn't be splashed in. I'm not sure what code is, Ive seen some high dollar houses with plugs within a couple fee of the tub and nobody got in trouble so, where ever you want or whatever your electrician suggests. ground fault circuit interrupters are always a good idea close to water so you got that much going for you.

specific, that is critical. the way a GFCI outlet works is with the help of shutting off the electrical powered energy it water hits the outlet. while you're on your whirl pool and water gets into the outlet that is going to close the electrical powered energy off to the whirl pool and shop you from be electrocuted. it additionally will defend you if say you drop a hairdryer into the whirl pool, with the GFCI outlet you isn't killed. they're required in all loos, kitchens, garages or exterior shops, everywhere have been water is modern.

A GFI outlet can be put anywhere you like...well except in the hot tub...if you wish to make multible outlets a GFI you only have to find the first outlet in a run change it to a GFI and then all the rest in the run will be a GFI.

If it is the one for the tub in your bathroom, it has to be close enough to connect the pump motor to. If it is another one, or outside, you want it far enough away that water won't splash onto it. Otherwise it will trip often. (that is it's job)
