I had this guy on instant messenger pop up. I have been having issues with my computer, and have been emailing the manufactorer. The guy seemed to be from the company, but after asking him questions, he said was just kidding. I said how did you know I was emailing the company, and he said, oh well I know you have that kind of computer.
I do not know this person, how did he know what type of PC I have?

Don't talk to people who join your MSN without being invited. Lots of hackers have software on their pcs which can detect all sorts of things about your pc. He didnt know you were emailing the manufacturer I think-you let information slip out and he picked up on it. People like this could so easily find out who and where you are. Be careful-don't talk to people you don't know and don't believe them just because they try to blind you with science!

They are called probably a worm,hacker or virus people made specially to crack your computers passwords and get all of the information on your computer. To prevent this setup a firewall or/and setup a security program. Or some times they use special devices to scan your computer for the type so they can help whith the problem.

I doubt it was really, I would contact the vendor of the IM service you are using with the same details. If only for peace of mind and to make a report of it.

A firewall probably would have prevented that.. There is a Windows Firewall.. in the control panel. Also you can set it up so no one can send you messages except people on your messenger list.

To be clear.......
It's not somebody who does evil or cracks software or intrudes in
networks a Hacker is somebody who has exceptional programming and computer skills (Kernel Hacker for example) and has earned
respect from the programming/hacker community from his or her good work and service.
They are problem solvers.

A hacker is a person who hacks in yor computer by using information given by you on computer. That is why it is imporant not to put relavant information online. But if you have up-tp-date antivirus protection on your computer...you dont have to worry about that.....
