lately I have this thin clear discharge coming from my private area. What is it, and why is it there? It has nothing to do with my period, but I can feel it, like, leak out. It really is clear, not white, it reminds me of raw egg whites.

I guess what I really want to know is:
What do you do about it when you are getting ready to have sex with a guy, and you have it there. What is the easiest way to get rid of it, and do guys think it is gross?

The degree of ignorance in the answers you've gotten is scary.
If it's a clear, stretchy mucus, like egg whites, you're simply ovulating. Sometimes it's more obvious than others. This happens between days 11-16 of your cycle, which starts when your BEGIN your period. This mucus carries and protects the sperm to reach the egg. It has no real scent when coming out, but could become smelly if left untended too long. Just use a pantyliner on those days.
By the way, I commend you on your awareness of your body. As you can see from these answers, too many are ignorant of what is going on in their own bodies.

It is from your cervix... When I was trying to get pregnant you are told to look for all the little changes over the course of the month. Are you on birthcontrol?? Typically you get that the week before you ovulate... Some people never notice it, other's do. It looks clear and had the consistancy of egg whites, like stringy...It's your body's way of preparing for impregnation...
If it is a funky color or smells funny, I would go have a check up...

haeaha yea that happens to me too. At first i was freaked, but my mom told me that it was natural. I searched the Internet and it is actually clear mucus from your private. When it comes in contact with air it is natural for it to turn yellow or white. If the color, texture, or smell changes drastically it might be an infection and you should see your doctor. The discharge can usually happens during sexual excitement, emotional stress, or during your period. For more info visit

That's where I got a lot of this information. I hope I was helpful.

This is normal. You cant make it go away. And the guy wont think anything about it if it is there. It is a natural lubricant. But if it changes color or has a smell you should see a doctor. It could be a infection.

Well if you have had sex recently especially unprotected you might want to get checked because it sounds like signs of chlamydia or gonohera. I mean i may be wrong but had clear/white discharge and especially if it has an odor you might have an std or infection

maybe normal and may not be. if it smells there may be a problem. I say check with a doctor just to be sure but it is not uncommon. It is not gross and u r not a whore. fertile may be the right answer but just be sure it's nothing else.

don't worry about it if its not smelly, doesn't have a color or its like for a day or too.
it happens to all of us ( don't mind other answers ) once every now and then, like every year or more.
try to boil some parsley and drink it, its really good for infections, and if it worries you much go to the GYN. just to be safe :)
wishing you all the luck :)

normal hun, you may notice it more when you ovulate, or just before your period. wear a panty liner if it bothers you. Unless it has a strong foul odor, itches or isthick or becomes green/yellow in color, you are fine. if you notices any of those changes, see a Dr.
