I have had Volvos, Camrys, a VW bug, a Chevy truck, a Taurus, Civic, even a Peugeot, The reviews seem to feel all of these are not what they once were. Subaru gets top scores? Torn between a wagon and sedan, Still have 1 boy at home just driving now, but this will be my car. Maybe ready for a bit of luxury. And does Ford now make Volvo?

Subarus are great cars. They are economical and have superb endurance, quality construction, many people drive them for 200k miles or more. They may be the very best car for driving in winter conditions (snow) in the mountains.

Subaru is usually not considered a styling leader; but does that matter to you? I drove a standard shift Forrester wagon on I-90 between Spokane and Seattle a few times, it had 145,000 miles on it, and burned no oil at all. Good handling, fun to drive.

Ford owns Volvo, but the cars are still made in Sweden by Swedes. Good cars. Ford owns Jaguar now, too.

I reccomend a "cross-over". They are the fastest growing sales category in the US. These include vehicles like the Honda Element or the Nissan Murano. They handle like an AWD car, but have the cargo space and some of the styling of an SUV.

When I bought a new car last year, I thought about buying Suburu and VW wagons, and even test drove them. When I sat down and compared the cargo space, the gas mileage, and everything else I decided on...a Honda Element. They are full time 4WD, low emissions and get great gas mileage. They aren't luxury, but neither is a Suburu. If you want luxury, a lot of high end car brands are introducing their own "cross-over" vehicles. I personally like the Murano, which is about $30, 000 + well equipped. Try doing a web search for "cross over" and "car".

Suburu is somewhat overpriced for what you get, you are mostly paying for a Brand. Also, the VC differential locks on Suburu "all-wheel drive" is OLD technology and not the best option out there for AWD cars.
