My question is this:

Why did Sen. Allen's "Macaca" comment (widely perceived to be the reason for his loss) get such sweeping media attention, while the revelations regarding sex scenes involving pedophilia in a novel written by now-Senator Jim Webb received little to no coverage by the media? One would think the disturbing and perverse things Webb has written in his novels would garner some kind of notice from the media.

I am beginning to suspect that had he been a Republican candidate, his political career would be over.... but these disturbing things have been largely overlooked. Why?

I liked neither Allen nor Webb. Pointing out that the man is perverse and that his perversion went COMPLETELY unnoticed by the media is not "whining." Google "Webb" and "novel" and see how much you like him then.

There is no doubt that what's left of the mainstream media has a systemic bias. By definition, they see themselves as responsible for speaking out against entrenched power...the "establishment" if you will, and fighting for the little guy.

But that's a misnomer. Most of us don't see ourselves as some downtrodden "little guy". And I don't want Joan of Arc arriving in my daily paper or on the boob tube to save me from God knows what. I'll take care of myself, thank you!

Most Americans are basically satisfied with traditional, established values. And most of the time the media is rubbing us the wrong way by scratching away at the proponents of those values searching for their next Pulitzer.

I for one, have no problem with aggressive reporting that says "the king has no clothes". I just want it to be "fair and balanced". If the king is wearing nice clothes, tell us so. And if the king's enemy is naked, tell us that too!

They push a biased point of view and don't even know it.

Webb's book was fiction. I think few people are stupid enough to think that things happening in a fictional novel mean that the writer approves of those acts.

Allen's comment, however, was spoken in a context that did indicate that, even if (as he claims) he did not know the racist nature of the word, he was intending to insult and embarrass his opponent.

Good question. A Republician IMs a former page over the age of consent and he is public enemy #1! A Demon-rats candidate authors pedophile books and he is elected? Something is broken here! When did we allow the liberal media to dictate our elections??

People also said Webb is sexist during campaign commercials. Yet, Webb still won. You have no good reason to whine.

I do not feel that was the reason for his loss, it could be the people was looking for a new direction and the only choice was the democrat,,,,(sometimes we take the better of the two evils and attempt to work and control them, we attempt to take the person that will listen and represent us) Sometimes not always the best choice but sometimes the only choice.
