I'm from the UK (Wales) and I'll kiss and make up with you if you want!!

You have to understand that we love to roll our eyes and talk about "stupid bloody Americans" but we love you really - as people even if we disagree with your politicians (Bush isn't fit to work in MaccyDs).

People of previous generations (Like my mum's) loved the Americans. They represented glamour and everything exciting. I think today's generation is a bit more cynical.

The thing is, a lot of people in Europe (and the UK) are pissed off with Bush about the Afghan/Iraq war - most Brits didn't want to get involved (our protests were ignored by that useless waste of space, Blair who has done nothing for the people of this country) and then when those Muslim bombers blew up London on 7/705 last year and said it was because of Britain's involvement in the war in the Middle East, it upset a lot of people.

Plus there are other grievances. Many Brits are angry that Americans funded the IRA murder machine. Many Brits get pissed off when they hear Americans bragging about being the "Greatest Country on Earth" or claiming they "Saved our ars.e" in WWII (even though they came in to the war 3 years late!).

We get peed off when Americans show ignorance about the rest of the world and come out with stupid comments. Or when they watch some crap Hollywood film like "Braveheart" and then think they are experts on Medieval British History!!

We Europeans like to complain about Americans - perhaps we see them as the runaway, out of control grown up child who we (as the parent countries) like to shake our heads over and say "Where did we go wrong"?

But hey some of you are alright!

Can you take back Madonna though? We're fed up with her trying to play the British Lady thing.

Billy d - sorry mate but noone in the UK give a toss about "losing the empire" to you!! Where the hell you got that from I don't know. "The Empire" has never bothered 99.999% of present day Brits. We just want to get on with our lives without being blown up by Muslim bombers because of Bush's war.

I'd love to kiss and make up - it's always better after an argument!

But as to our respective nations... I guess it all really goes back to that little tea party when some Bostonians & others tried to make the tea without boiling the kettle properly first. The milk is supposed to go into the cup before the tea is dunked in sea water!

Since then - as we have watched our empire dwindle, and we have kinda grown out of the whole 'cultural imperialism' thing, we stand aghast at the young pups over the herring pond doing exactly what we did hundreds of years ago. It did us loads of good back then, but made a mess of the rest of the world. Your government's successive policies are like bad echoes of stuff Britain did 2-300 years ago.

But with added nuclear missiles, religious fundamentalism, coke, McD's and very expensive coffee shops that rhyme with 'Big Bucks'.

And then there is all of the 'America is great, Britain is rubbish' twaddle that you yourself push!
And the idea that US citizens know so little about the rest of the world, and care even less
Putting US business interests before the welfare of people in your own country and elsewhere...
and that is promulgated by your own media, Jane, not by us!
The whole Quantanamo Bay thing doesn't help...
Keeping Bush as your president is a serious disablility/liability for getting good relationships going with people in other countries (rather than the governments that he seems to buy).
Ignoring the whole Global Warming' issue and polluting the planet like crazy because the american car industry would suffer otherwise is just suicidal....
The whole 'either you are with us or you're the enemy' thing.... phew... bad karma!

None of it leads to understanding.

I live in England, UK, I have no idea why you think I do not like Americans?
Your question is invalid because it is based on a falsehood. This does mean I don't like you, as an individual, it means that I disagree with you.
I have no reason to dislike the American people, though I hate some of the American laws, such as the gun laws, as I think they are dangerous for the American people.

the people of the uk dont actually have much power, no matter who you vote for the same ppl always get in and they are not representative of the true country - in real life i think uk is very cosmopolitan and there is a broad range of ideas and cultures

you are just picking up on a general idea, but going forward i think our country is changing like it never has done - teh next few years are going to be very important and we will need each others help a lot

Despite what some people on here say most UK residents do not hate the USA. Many do however, dislike certain American traits. The more open minded people see the good and the bad.

I think people of my Mother`s generation liked the americans, but that generation was unlearned in international affairs and easily fooled by the media and government.

I can think of no one of my age, in my peer group or amongst my international friends that has any love for them. They are seen as warmongering, boastful and overly religious. Their knowledge of how the rest of us live is woefully lacking and the way that they suck up to their government is appalling. They are forever trying to impose `freedom` upon all and sundry, their `freedom` of course, which really is just another word for `colonise` and promoted by hatred for other cultures.
Maybe if their population started thinking for itself they would regain some respect in our eyes, but, what with their dismal lack of education and their easily lead, usa is best, attitude I think it is nigh on impossible.
Religion, unbelievable !
Government, unbelievable !
Sorry all you americans, truly I am, I think you have had the biggest `con-job` done on you since time began.
Take control of your own lives before it is too late.

Some still do. I think we have a lot of friends in Ireland and Australia. I saw a survey that said Poland had the most favorable rating of the US. I think sometimes they get upset, but are still our allies.
