I am happy that the Dems have taken over the house and senate, but what is their immediate solution to the war in Iraq? Do you think they will be able to force Pressident Bush to turn his policy around?

The United States has just voted itself a shared power between the executive and legislative branches. With Nancy Pelosi as the new Speaker of the House, she has the third most powerful political office in the land after the President and Vice-President.

The issue for the president now is that he will not be able to easily put legislation through congress because the Democrats control congress.

Foreign policy is generally fomulated by the executive branch, the president and his secretary of state, along with the military.

The Democrats already have fomulated concrete policies regarding health, the minimum wages, social security and other very important social matters.

Regarding the war in Iraq, the legislature by itself cannot easily stop the war. Remember that the Senate is split 51/49 in favor of the Democrats. There is going to have to be a concerted effort on the part of the American people, the military, the president and congress regarding the direction to take regarding the mess in Iraq.

The concern is that if the USA pulls out of Iraq completely, it will leave that country in chaos and open to becoming a terrorist state, a situation worse than when the U.S. first went in to depose Saddam.

Its a conundrum. It will take the best thinkers in our nation to find a constructive way to end this war. Right now it appears unfathomable to me.

The Dems have no solution to Iraq, anymore than anyone else does. We went in with the best intentions and justifications but it turned into a hellhole. There is nothing in Iraq or Afghanistan worth even 1 American life. I am a Republican and do still support Mr. Bush. I don't think anyone had an inkling of the quagmire this would become. As always, the Dems talk loudly but say nothing constructive.

The Iraq war was such a collosal disaster, there is no good solution now. Like the line from the movie War Games, the only winning move was not to play. Unfortunately, we're past that point now. At this point we are looking at how best to minimize our losses. I'm sure the Dems will come up with something, but don't expect great results quickly. Like I said, there are no good solutions now, no matter which party you're with.

I'm not being sarcastic, but I don't think the Repubs have one
either. Isn't that why Rumsfeld is gone?
Another problem is that Bush still has veto power. Hang in
there untill late 2007.
Bill Maher had some good comments on this subject, last
night on Larry King. But, like I said, Bush still has veto power.

Yes they have plan.It is the same one the Republicans had.To keep themselves in office. In their case it will by promising entitlements and paying for them by taking money away from one group and giving it to another. The Republicans promise us smaller government(usually they don't deliver). The Democrats have no solution to the war in Iraq,Im sorry to say. They don't have a large enough majority to force Bush to do anything. The good guys didn't win, just different bad guys.We need to look elsewhere for solutions. We won't,there's not enough of us.

The have no idea what to do and with the large divisions between the left and right in the party it will take some time for them to come up with something. We can only hope that the radicals like Murtha will be muzzled and better plans come forward than giving up.

No, they don't. That's why it's so pathetic that they got all these votes from people solely because they don't like the way the things are going in Iraq. The Democrats have absolutely NO PLAN whatsoever - their entire position is: we're not Bush!!

If anyone wants to really hear what the plans are tune in to CNN, Keith Olberman, Lou Dobs,or if you are desperate Fox News. Until Jan.2007 the repbs. are still in charge.

Hell no, as a matter of fact it will increase defense spending to better equip the troops we have there now, and once the Dem's have the hourly wage raised, a whole lot of people will be laid off work.
