It requires a strong knowledge of the censorship laws that exist in "Bollywood", which is actually a North American term and not one that exists anywhere else in the world, as well as permission from various government bodies and production houses. Like China, there is no such thing as an independent film in India.

I think that it takes less than 10 mill to produce a film there. They have it down to a science and are able to turn out a feature in less than 20 days of shooting. Obviously the size of the musical numbers and amount of production design makes some of the films more expensive, but I think you can produce an acceptable one for 7 mill.

It may be around 10M US$ for a good
movie.
The star cast is very important.
The story line has to be excellent.
The psychology of the movie
goer has to be understood very well.
What you like, may not be the need
for the viewers.
Flops like Black, Umraao Jaan, KANK,
Khosla ka Ghosla,Omkara, are such examples.
There are such films, the directors,
inspite of their not liking it, have made
the film with success.
The script, the lead roles matter much.
The heroines also matter much. Heroines
like, Susmita, Aishwaria, Madhuri, Aamisha,
Bipasha, Sonali, Raveena may he history.
Stars like Kajol, Rani, Prianka, (Juhi?), may
make a film superhit.
Salmaan, Sanju, AAmir, Shahrukh ect. are
the best bet today.
If, these stars and a good producer, produces
a film, with a good story and a good music
director, then the cost may go upto US $ 15 Million.

lets start calculate
male leading star rs.3 crore(roughly1.5 million)
female leading star rs.2 crore(1 million)
villian say about half million
exta artist about half million
diractor 1 million
film roll and exta setting and camera expences 2 million
advertising and out door shooting cost 2 million
for stunt and song recording and shooting 3 million
and 1 million for urgent or accidental expences. so all together u need 12 to 15 million according to your story line it may go up to 20 million.
