They just passed a smoking ban in the state of Ohio. Since 75 percent of the folks who frequent bars smoke, does this mean that such establishments will now be virtually empty?

That's what everyone said when the law passed in NYC and nothing changed. Most people actually ended up liking it better. People complained a little about it the first winter because it was cold outside but no one really cares anymore.

The only problems are that:
1) Drunk people keep trying to take their beer out onto the sidewalk now when they go to have a cigarette
2) Upstairs neighbors complain that the drunk smokers on the sidewalk are too noisy (bars are open til 4am) and now there are more noise complaints

NO, people that do not smoke can now go in and enjoy the smoke free air and dance and drink the night away. I can hardly wait. I live in the Houston area and the businesses are actually picking up, and so are the ones in Galveston because they passed a no smoking in the restaurants and bars.

And we know that the smokers are the ones giving us the thumbs down. I love it.

NO, we have it here and I LOVE it. I can now go get smashed without feeling like I smoked a pack of cigarettes the next morning.

Seriously, when they passed it here, I thought the same thing you did. It didn't hurt business at all. Smokers can live for a few hours without a cigarette. And, if not, they just go outside for a few minutes.

I don't know how bad smoking is in the U.S. but since it is statistically worse in Canada with our population being smaller....I'm sure the same will apply.
I work in the industry and our city is going to be 100% smoke free in all public establishments....is it hurting business? to tell you the honest truth, it actually is helping business.....the only problem.....MILLIONS of cigarette butts just outside of every major establishment......and our winters are way worse than yours

my guess: there is going to be an invention, the outdoor smoking area.

no

they passed similar bans in other states and the businesses who were "crying" that it would affect them saw their business actually make more money.

I love how someone is giving us all those who say that "no it wont affect buisnesses" a thumbs down..
