Most commercial pilots are former military pilots. Why? Because they have logged tousands of hours flying in all types of conditions compared to only a few hundred hours logged by a person fresh out of school.

This depends on the type of air craft you want to fly. And it also depends on the company you want to work for. After getting your liscence most companies as you can probably guess require that you have experience.
