My fiance is a minister and really is being faithful with not having premarital sex...............(Yea.....I finally got a real one!!!) Anyway, we are planning a wedding for June 2007. Uh..........we can't wait that long! So we are planning a secret ceremony to become legal. The reason I suggested this is because I want to have a traditional wedding with the works. But, I want everyone to be excited about it and I feel that if they already know that we are married, they won't be that excited and it may bring me down. I don't want to feel this way........so we are going to elope next month. My thing is........I want to have my real wedding in Mississippi. So, if we elope in Illinois where he lives what will my pastor do when he wants to sign the marriage license? Can I apply for another license in Mississippi even though we are already married? I hope I make sense!!! Please help!!!!

let your family and friends know you are going to have a small ceremony and have the big one in June. I know some friends who have done that. It' doesn't change a whole lot of anything. All these people who aren't at your first ceremony can be at your second one and it will work fine.

I don't *think* it's legal to apply for another marriage license, but you'll have to check the rules for the specific state; don't know if it's different when you're "marrying" the same person. Can you do a civil ceremony now, and a religious wedding later? These can be two different things, depending on the religion. A friend of mine got married legally, and then several years later they went to her hometown and had a Russian Orthodox ceremony; it was like a real wedding.

No, It's not legal to have two different marriage license from 2 different states. Just let the cat out of the bag and tell your friends what you are planning. A real friend would understand.

BTW. you won't need another marriage license anyways, because you will already be legally married.
Congratulations!!

maybe i'm wrong, but you don't need to have a marriage license everytime you get married if you're marrying the same person anyway. the first weddings would be the legally binding event and the next weddings are just ceremonial. it's like silver weddings where the couple just renew their vows. i think you can pull it.

Stop behaving like total idiots. Marry or don't marry - who gives a damn?

No you can't. Stop being so selfish. If you can't wait then tell everyone you can't wait.
