I know this does not make sense...hence my question. The D-Link is powered over ethernet (PoE) and made to work outdoors. When the same ethernet cable is coiled and sitting in my office, everything works fine. When it is uncoiled and laid on the ground outdoors, it is not visible as an available network. I also cannot "discover" the unit via the hardwired connection when the problem occurs. I have tried plugging in the power adapter into different AC outlets and tried different ethernet cables, both shorter and longer and including the one that came with the unit. Tried with unit grounded and ungrounded. All works fine when it is coiled up on a desk...uncoiled...no dice. Thanks for any ideas.

No emi. Does work with short cable on a desk. Stops working when uncoiled outside...two brand new cables, one 30m from D-Link the second one a standard ethernet cable ~150' long. Power light blinks fast, WLAN light is constant, LAN light is constant, and RSSI is constant.

I know that you said that you tried shorter and longer cables. I believe that it has to be the cable. You would actually make things worse from an inductance standpoint with the cable coiled. There HAS to be a point where a straight cable will work - even if it's a short patch cable.

Also considering that you lay the cable on the ground. Are you on top of any kind of EMI source? Sprinkler, spa, or pool pump maybe? Go out there and listen with a portable AM radio to see if you can hear some humming or severe interference.

The PoE seems to not be a factor in this case.

if it unplugs it that might be why.
