Take your Husband to your pediatrician with you and ask the doctor. Some people believe that what their parents say is true and they need to hear it from a professional. If your child is ready then they should start eating baby food and baby oatmeal.

Yes I have heard the same thing. It is an old practice based on the conditions from many generations ago handed down.
Although it is true that many babies have a very sensitive digestive system and it should not be burdened with any thing but liquids, some babies develop faster specially if their weight and hight is in the upper percentiles of the growth chart and have no physical developmental problems.
With our 14 month old baby and also with our twins who are now 17 we began mixing baby rice cereal (wheat cereal will give them gas) in their formula as early as 2 months old. We gave them other liquids such as water, diluted apple juice (it is too acidic to give it to them undiluted), and chicken broth (at 4+ months). Our 14 month old was eating soft foods like mashed potatoes as early as 6 months and Chereos and animal crackers at 8 months.
Each baby is different. You are the best judge of what your baby can handle. Nobody knows your baby better than you. Just don't be anxious to go too fast. Take your time and evaluate everything carefully and best err on the side of caution. Sometimes we want our kids to hurry up and grow up. Enjoy your baby while he/she is little. They grow up too fast as it is if you ask me.

Things were a lot different when we were babies. Babies can, in fact, live on breast milk/formula alone for the first year, but introducing other foods is essential to weed out allergies and to get their palette wet for all kinds of foods. The more foods you introduce in the first year, the less picky your little one should be - so they say. I would research all the facts and lay them all out for your husband. Good luck!

Honey should never be given to a child under the age of 12 months old. A good website is toxicfoodbible.genuineremedy.info about list of toxic food ingredients.

I would say if he wants to do that then he should be the one to get up with the baby cause once the baby needs more-like cereal, food, more nutrients-if the baby doesn't get it then they will be up about every couple hours cause there stomachs are empty and they are starving. start food to soon can develop allergies to food but that's like under 4 months

A baby needs good balanced nutrition much sooner than 1 years old. Otherwise they are not getting the vitamins and minerals they need for proper growth and development. Check out this site about healthy baby food.

I didn't wait a year and my son is now 40 years old, I started him out on applesauce and the rice cereal mixed in with his milk, I think they sleep better at nite and are in general less fussy.

After 6 months, the baby needs more than just breast milk or formula. At 6 months your baby needs more nutrients, especially iron.

when my oldest was about 3 weeks old he started eating peanut butter, and burritos with me, and liked them, i asked the doctor if this was OK, and they told me as long as he was doing it and was not having any problems then to let him eat it. but if you wait a till they are a year old to put them on solid foods you could have problems. the child could have there growth stunted, and the child will always be hungry and not sleep well at night.

If your child is under one year old, I believe that you should in fact feed him or her.
