Or is it like cutting a fingernail...

Not at all! There is nothing that actually links you to the umbilical cord. That is connected to the placenta, which is also passed during the birthing process...after the baby is delivered. And cutting the umbilical cord doesn't hurt the baby either...there are no nerves attached to it.
I guess it would be more like cutting a fingernail...with a little more involved.
There is a clamp placed a little ways from the baby's navel...where the umbilical cord is attached...and another clamp placed about an inch or two after the first. The gap between the two is where the cord is cut. They clamp it to keep the fluids in the cord. It sounds kind of gross....but it's natural and quick. Hope this helped!

Less than a fingernail - you don't feel a thing. Of course, around the time they cut the cord the mother has other things on her mind anyway.

No it does not hurt at all. The mother and the baby are completely safe. First the umbilical cord is clamped next to baby's belly button and when the cord stops pulsating it is cut... To easy, dont worry its all good.

the umbillical cord is attached to the placenta not the woman, you dont feel anything cos its not apart of you, its like cutting someone elses fingernail..... so to speak.

Doesn't hurt a bit. And I had stitches to repair a tear immediately after (drugless) birth - no anaesthetic for the stitches, didn't feel a thing! Baby didn't cry either - her father cut the cord, so it's not like it was an expert job! Like someone else said, it's the most painless part.

No, it doesn't hurt. The umbilical cord has no nerves. It is just like when your hair is cut. No pain.

no because it is attached to the placenta not to the woman. It not even as bad as cutting fingernails. Now labor, that is a different story.

You don't feel a thing when they do that. The umbillical cord is attached to the placenta not to you, so you don't feel a thing, neither does the baby.....

There are no nerves in the cord, so neither tha mother or baby feel it, btw it isn't attached to the mother but to the placenta, which comes unattached during labor
