There are a LOT of different reasons women who have done this have given for their crimes -- wanting to keep a relationship from falling apart, wanting a child of their own (but could not conceive), jealousy, psychotic break with reality, miscarriage (and psychosis that comes with that event for some), and other mentally ill conditions ...

I'm sure that in prison, a person could get killed for their CIGARETTE. Strong passion driving someone to kill another for something that other person has which the murderer wants spells mental instability (to at the least).. if you ask me.
