She is a doll, people always forget that.
She is not human in anyway, as I child (though some adults don't seem to understand it) I recongized it. I never wanted to be blonde, but I played with Barbie until I was 12 years old. I do not currently (OR EVER HAVE) had body issues.
As a daughter my main role model was, and is, my MOTHER.
Who has small boobs, is not real thin, and who has a vulva.
People should ask themselves why their daughters PICK Barbie as a role model, and realize that their IS something wrong in that particular environment.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude here, but if you were the role model for your child, would you care what Barbie was? This doll is not the problem or the fix. YOU ARE! Let your child be who they are or want to be; just know who they are. I'm not saying to let your child do bad things, just let them grow. How are they supposed to ever know right if they never know wrong.
True Barbie is not supposed to be a 100% realistic person but unlike He-Man, or Tellytubbies she is supposed to be a human and therefore should be a little more representative of who a kid may aspire to be.
Shouldn't your kid aspire to be like you in the first beginnings of their lives until they figure out who they really want to be?
I might can see where you are coming from on a physical stand point, but even that is asking too much from a child.
You are supposed to be the role model.

I really don't think that children have toys as role models. I had an action man when I was a child but I never thought that I wanted to be like him when I grew up. When the cabbage patch kids were around I didn't see children behaving any differently so I really don't think Barbie makes that much difference to the world.

LOL at what "Penguin" said... Barbie now comes in 'Trailer Trash' and 'Divorced' Models. My Sister had that old version of Barbie. Look at her hairstyle. Don't think she was so 'suchy muchy' perfect...Ha Ha!

why does barbie not have a vulva? because shes not the kind of doll you need to have an 18+ ID to buy. and its not that kind of "toy shop"
you can now buy soft, less "curvy" barbie dolls for younger children. and while barbie may be anatomicly (what?) in-correct, se inspired Jordan (probably) and lots of other odly shaped women. and some "men" too.

Barbie is a DOLL.
A DOLL will NOT be your kid's role model.
Plus, now they're making all types of Barbies. Not just blonde and white, Asian, Hispanic-Looking, black...
And Barbie isn't the only kid's toy out there.

As a parent and Great Aunt I would say YES, But even if a girl doesn't have one she is still subjected to the ideas! Young girls idolise models and pop/film-stars. Most of them are Barbie-esc!
Look at POSH BECKHAM. She looks anorexic but has everything a girl thinks she needs! In modelling we need less tall size 0's more 5ft 6 size 12/14. More realistic!!!
Plus as Barbie is often depicted as a DIZZY BLONDE it encourages girls to be afraid of showing they even have a brain!
Boys still seem to be drawn to excessive Macho types and toys like Action Man or people like Stallone encourage that!
You gotta be DIZZY and SKINNY to be a PROPER woman
HARD as NAILS and MUSCULAR to be a REAL man

Barbie is a fine role model as long as you take her for what she is............a doll. I think she's a little more wholesome than the Bratz dolls. (4 year old girl doesn't need a tummy baring top) And we teach our kids that we're all made to look different.

It's a toy and so shouldn't even be thought of in that kind of way. Toys and cartoon characters can't be role models. I don't even like them as a toy and hope my daughter doesn't like them either.
